About Us

The Community Health Clinic opened its doors in April of 2002. The dream of a place for the uninsured with chronic health conditions started as an idea. The idea was spread at committee meetings where it was discussed further and the idea began to grow. No one knew how they were going to do it but they knew that healthcare was a serious issue in our area, like many others. The more people discussed this idea and dedicated time to invaluable research, small things began to happen.
When we first started, so many people were without healthcare we could only see those in Hardin & LaRue County. And even with just those 2 counties the wait list for even a screening appointment was months long. With only a few paid staff, the providers, nurses, triage staff, front desk staff, pharmacists, and pharmacy staff were ALL VOLUNTEER. Just like they are now.

Things have certainly changed. Medicaid has expanded to cover those at a higher income level than previously done. This alone took our patient population down quite a bit. At that time we were able to expand our services to provide advocacy to those needing assistance applying for Medicaid. We had a couple of on-staff ‘kynectors’ who were able to sit with the patients and complete the Medicaid applications, helping them obtain coverage.
We expanded services to cover Medicare advocacy also. Every year during Medicare Open Enrollment (Oct. 15th – Dec. 7th) we take appointments for those receiving Medicare to review their Part D prescription drug plan. This review looks over their current plan and compares with others available to make sure their medications will be covered and there will not be significant price increases.
The Clinic still provides prescription assistance to our patients and we still have our licensed on-site pharmacy where we dispense medications for chronic conditions to our patients. Our patient base has also been extended to not only include residents of Hardin and LaRue Counties but also Meade, Breckinridge, & Grayson Counties as well. Talk about DREAMING BIG!
